Lily combines a strong foundation in the physical sciences with a legal education focused on intellectual property law. She earned her B.A. in Physics and Mathematics, with a minor in Management Studies, magna cum laude, from St. Olaf College. As an undergraduate, she deliberately chose a liberal arts setting that let her pair her science coursework with humanities electives. At St. Olaf, she conducted research using scanning electron microscopy to study fossil coral samples for paleoclimate reconstruction and interned in reliability engineering at 3M.

She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law, graduating magna cum laude with concentrations in both intellectual property law and entertainment law. At UNH she served as the Notes & Comments Editor of IDEA: The Law Review of the Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Property. Her own student note, addressing the impact of the AIA and the unique complications faced by private inventors attempting to make First Amendment arguments against patent secrecy orders, was published in IDEA Volume 66, Issue 1.

During law school, Lily interned with Hologic, Inc., working on intellectual property matters such as patentability assessments, patent landscape searches, and USPTO office action responses.
