Drew Horton*
Primary Areas of Practice
Overview
Drew Horton helps clients protect and advance their technical innovations, bringing to his patent prosecution and litigation practice a background in chemical engineering and polymer science.
Drew comes from a family of engineers spanning four generations, including a great-grandfather who worked on radar during World War II and a father and grandfather who were both chemical engineers. Patents were part of the household conversation from an early age, and Drew initially followed the family path into engineering, earning his B.S., summa cum laude, in Chemical Engineering from the University of Akron, with a minor in Chemistry and a certificate in Polymer Science. Through a co-op program during his undergraduate studies, he worked in the Advanced Materials Department at Schaeffler Group, researching electric vehicle battery technology.
Drew earned his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, where he obtained a 4.052 GPA and was named a Presidential Merit Scholarship recipient. He served on the Moot Court Board, reaching the semifinal round of the Rothwell Intellectual Property Law Moot Court Competition, and worked as a Staff Member for the AIPLA Quarterly Journal. Prior to his time at Rothwell Figg, he clerked at an intellectual property firm, where he researched patent litigation, PCT filings, and trade secret matters, and met directly with inventor and trademark clients.
Drew credits much of his engineering training for his approach to legal work: a close attention to detail and an insistence on understanding each underlying concept, rather than settling for a satisfactory result, which he sees as essential to sound long-term legal strategy.
