Partner Jennifer Maisel will be a speaker during the Skills Workshop titled "The Rise of Quantum Computing at the USPTO – Patent Drafting Tips, Perils, Pitfalls" at the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) 2025 Spring Meeting taking place May 13-15, 2025, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jen's Workshop will take place on the second day of the Meeting, May 14.
The workshop will focus on the emerging world of quantum computing and how it intersects with traditional patent law and practice at the USPTO. The session will begin with an introduction and a briefing on current quantum computing technology trends and applicable legal frameworks. From there, Jen and her co-speakers will examine key patent prosecution challenges, such as the pitfalls of obviousness determinations for quantum inventions in comparison to classical computing, and explore effective strategies for drafting quantum-focused patent claims. Attendees will engage in a hands-on case study and scenario analysis to apply these concepts in real time. The program will conclude with a Q&A session, group discussion, and key takeaways, providing practitioners with practical insights on navigating the rapidly evolving patent landscape for quantum technologies.
The 2025 AIPLA Spring Meeting is designed to explore the intersection of intellectual property, emerging technologies, and legal innovation, offering something for everyone in the IP community.
