Partners Brian Rosenbloom and Jennifer Maisel will participate in the 2026 ABA-IPL Section Annual Meeting (IPLSPRING) taking place April 15-17, 2026, in Washington, D.C. IPLSPRING is the premier intellectual property conference of the year.
Brian will moderate the CLE session "Emerging Trends in Patent Law: Courts, Congress, and the Patent Office" taking place Wednesday, April 15, at 8:30 am. The session will examine the forces currently reshaping American patent law across all three branches of government and provide a practical guide during these uncertain times. The discussion will analyze landmark patent decisions from the past year, highlight significant shifts in USPTO policy and practice, and assess prospects and pressures for upcoming reforms. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of recent patent law developments and of the institutional dynamics driving patent law's evolution.
On Thursday, April 16, at 9:45 am, Jen will be a speaker in the CLE session "Copyright on Trial: Lessons from Four Years of Generative AI Litigation." When the first lawsuits hit generative AI companies in late 2022, copyright law quickly took center stage, seen by many as the most powerful tool available to rein in this disruptive technology. To others, it was an awkward fit, being forced to fight policy battles it was never meant to fight. Four years later, have court rulings brought clarity, or just more questions? This panel traces the evolution of IP thinking around generative AI, examines key court decisions, and asks: Is IP still the right framework to address the risks of generative AI, or is it time for something new? This panel will be a candid discussion on where the law stands, where it’s headed, and what’s at stake for creators, companies, and the public.
