Overview

Delon Lier’s practice focuses on patent litigation and complex intellectual property disputes. He represents clients in matters involving life sciences, medical devices, FDA-approved drugs, vaccine technology, camera optics, network communications, trade secrets, and Lanham Act issues.

Delon brings to his practice a rare combination of scientific training, litigation skill, and firsthand appellate insight. He earned his B.A., with honors, in Biological Sciences from the University of Chicago, with minors in Molecular Engineering and Cinema & Media Studies. He was awarded his J.D. from New York University School of Law. At NYU, he served on the Moot Court Board, was Executive Editor of the International Law Competition and a Competitions Division Staff Editor and was elected to the Order of the Barristers. He also served as the president of the Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Society while at NYU.

Before joining a firm, Delon served as a law clerk to the Honorable Pauline Newman of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. That experience shaped his perspective on litigation. He thinks strategically about preserving the record, anticipating appellate issues, and presenting arguments in a way that will be clear and persuasive to courts at every stage of a case.

Delon is drawn to patent litigation because it places him at the center of disputes over cutting-edge science and technology. He is especially interested in the challenge of translating complex technical issues into clear, compelling narratives for judges, juries, and clients.

Experience

Prior to joining Rothwell Figg, Delon gained extensive litigation experience drafting dispositive, discovery, evidentiary, pre-trial, claim construction, and appellate briefs; prepared jury instructions; managed discovery and third-party vendor teams; conducted custodial interviews; supported expert witness development; and prepared damages and licensing analyses. He also first-chaired oral argument on motions in limine and prepared partners for summary judgment argument.
