The Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) issued its final written decisions in two inter partes review proceedings (IPRs) in favor of Rothwell Figg client Vudu, Inc. The decisions resulted in a determination that all challenged claims are unpatentable and a denial of Patent Owner’s motion to amend the claims, resulting in a complete victory for Vudu.

Non-practicing entities, Helios Streaming, LLC and Ideahub, Inc., initially filed a patent lawsuit against Vudu in the District of Delaware, alleging infringement of several patents allegedly covering the MPEG-DASH video streaming standard. In response, Vudu filed two IPR petitions, one against the ‘830 patent (IPR2020-01688) and one against the ‘414 patent (IPR2020-01689).

The Rothwell Figg team representing Vudu was made up of Brian Rosenbloom, Jennifer Maisel, Steven Lieberman, Sharon Davis, and Nicole DeAbrantes.
