Partners Steven Lieberman and Jenny Colgate will speak on "'Privacy Trolls' – A Look at Privacy Laws and Litigation, and a Discussion on How to Empower Individuals Without Creating a System that Breeds 'Trolls'" at the Spring Privacy + Security Forum put on by the Privacy + Security Academy, taking place May 10-12, 2023, in Washington, D.C. Steven and Jenny's session will take place on Friday, May 12.

Numerous privacy and data protection laws provide for a private right of action – such as the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), the Telephone Consumer Privacy Act (TCPA), and even the Uniform Trade Secret Act (UTSA). This session will discuss whether recent rulings in these cases encourage “troll” behavior, and will consider how statutory and case law should evolve so that individuals are afforded the ability to sue to protect their rights, but corporations are protected from burdensome settlement-driven litigation threats.

The event brings together the most seasoned thought leaders in the areas of privacy and security law for deep-dive sessions that deliver practical takeaways for conference participants. To learn more, and to register, visit the Spring Privacy + Security Forum website.
