Mark T. Rawls Associate

Mark T. Rawls practices primarily in the area of patent litigation and prosecution. Mr. Rawls graduated from William and Mary Law School (magna cum laude), and from the University of Virginia (magna cum laude), where he studied Mathematics (M.S.) and Computer Science (B.S.).  Mr. Rawls began his career at Rothwell Figg as a summer associate in 2013, and joined the firm as an associate in 2014.

Prior to joining Rothwell Figg, Mr. Rawls served as a legal intern at Google, working with their patent litigation group. While in law school, Mr. Rawls served as Senior Articles Editor on the Business Law Review. Mr. Rawls also assisted the representation of numerous veterans as a student attorney in the Veterans Benefits Clinic and as an extern at two different law firms, which involved legal research, responding to agency decisions, drafting briefs, interviewing clients and witnesses, and drafting an amicus brief for certiorari that was sent to the Supreme Court. Mr. Rawls also served on the board of the Student Intellectual Property Society.

Prior to law school, Mr. Rawls worked as a computer scientist at Raytheon BBN Technologies, where he primarily focused on speech recognition and machine translation technologies.  During this time, Mr. Rawls became very familiar with the Android operating system, for which he developed a speech-to-speech translation system that was ultimately field-tested in Afghanistan by the United States Army.
