Marty Zoltick and Brian Rosenbloom Co-Teach Course Sponsored by the D.C. Bar Association on Software Patents

On August 9 and 10, 2005, Marty Zoltick and Brian Rosenbloom, Members of the Washington, D.C. Intellectual Property boutique law firm Rothwell, Figg, Ernst and Manbeck, co-taught a course sponsored by the District of Columbia Bar Association as part of its Continuing Legal Education Program, entitled “Software Patent Primer: Acquisition, Exploitation, Enforcement, and Defense.” The course focused on software, Internet and business method technologies, and the process of acquiring patent and other forms of protection for these technologies; the forms of exploitation available for such technologies through licensing and other types of agreements; and how to prosecute and defend patent infringement suits involving such technologies.The course also addressed various strategies for developing a patent portfolio of software, Internet and business method technologies, considering patent versus other forms of intellectual property protection, patentable subject matter, protection in the EPO, Japan and other foreign countries, and maximizing the scope of protection for licensing and litigation.
