JENNY L. COLGATE
Associate
Ms. Colgate joined Rothwell Figg in 2008. Prior to joining Rothwell Figg, Ms. Colgate was an associate at an international law firm where she practiced intellectual property and Section 337 litigation, and she represented individuals detained in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on a pro bono basis. While in law school, Ms. Colgate was a student attorney for the Franklin Pierce Criminal Practice Clinic; a volunteer on the Innocence Project; a teaching assistant of Constitutional Law, Legal Writing, and Torts; an editor of IDEA, the Intellectual Property Law Review; and in 2004 Ms. Colgate was a judicial intern for the Honorable Arthur J. Gajarsa of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Ms. Colgate is also a summa cum laude graduate of University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated with honors in Communications, completing her thesis in the area of children's cognitive abilities to distinguish online advertisements from web site content.
Ms. Colgate is experienced in intellectual property litigation matters before U.S. District Courts, spending the majority of her time on patent litigation matters. She is also experienced in trademark matters before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and U.S. District Courts, Section 337 matters before the International Trade Commission, appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and opinion work (freedom to operate and validity). Ms. Colgate's practice covers a broad range of diverse technologies, including business methods, computer hardware and software, databases, telecommunications, memory devices, apparel, consumer products, chemical coatings and compositions, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. Ms. Colgate is an avid horsewoman, competing many weekends of the year in "A-rated" jumping competitions, and she is particularly interested in intellectual property issues that affect the equine industry.
